ooohhoney:

Today I am sad to say that another one of my favourite, most inspirational She-roes has passed on. Yuri Kochiyama was an amazing activist of Japanese American heritage. She was not unfamiliar to the struggles from racism and injustice as she experienced the terrors of Japanese interment camps. Her zeal, courageousness, intellect and her kind heart will never be forgotten. She taught me the power of solidarity, the strength of consciousness and need to fight against the injustices that continue on in from the system we live with. Rest in Peace Yuri, your hard work will have not been in vain. As someone a part of this generation, I, along with many young devoted individuals, promise to carry on your works. I know there is plenty more things I need to learn about you and your achievements. I have much more growing to do, but I do know that “when I grow up, I wanna be like Yuri Kochiyama”

Anonymous asked: hello! I am organising a trans float for this years LGBT pride parade in brighton. I think it's important that trans people are strongly represented in the parade, marching *for* trans people. There is an meet up to begin planning our float on saturday June 7th, 2-5pm at the conference room, community base, Brighton. This room is accessible for wheelchairs. The meet up and the float is open to trans people and their allies. If anyone has questions, please contact ftm brighton. thank you! Ed

“if prostitution were legalized that guy wouldn’t have shot those women”

HEY ASSHOLES GUESS WHAT

sex workers do not want unstable, VIOLENT men as clients

Sex workers are not disposable things you can use and put in danger to protect the ‘good’ women

Entitlement like that can’t be resolved by sex work, and frankly even if it could, the danger to sex workers + likely resulting injury to them would NOT be okay

"A lot of people talk about trans women of color and the violence that we deal with. But when we’re together, we don’t talk about that. Because the world will remind us of that. We know that when we walk in the world, we are under attack. We understand that. And so when we get together, we wanna talk about Beyoncé and have a couple cocktails, you know? Hang out and just be. Just be happy. Being happy together builds our sisterhood, but it also builds our resolve and it’s just like, This is revolutionary for us to be in this world and its suffering and to deal with suffering, but be fucking happy, too. We don’t need to sit in it all the time, because we exist in it."

Statement from QTIPOC Brighton on the use of racial slurs at Brighton IDAHOBIT event 2014

QTIPOC Brighton are deeply unhappy to hear that the racial slur ‘n*****’ was used in a speech by a member of The Clare Project at this year’s IDAHOBIT event. We are disturbed that the violence of racist language was deemed appropriate while challenging the violence of homophobia, biphobia and transphobia. For people of colour and others in attendance this would have created a deeply unsafe environment, and sends the message that the Brighton LGBT community are not particularly concerned about the inclusion or safety of people of colour who are lesbian, gay, bisexual or trans*.

QTIPOC Brighton feels a public apology from both The Clare Project and the organisers of IDAHOBIT is needed, along with a commitment to ensuring future IDAHOBIT events are anti-racist and inclusive in their organisation and delivery.
